SEMI: This year's semiconductor equipment sales are estimated to be 87.4 billion US dollars, and Taiwan ranks first in the world

The International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) predicts that global sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment may fall to US$87.4 billion this year, an annual decrease of 18.6%, and sales in the Taiwan market will rank first in the world.

SEMI said that in 2023, the sales of fab equipment and back-end packaging and testing equipment will decline simultaneously. Among them, the sales of fab equipment will decrease by 18.8%; the sales of packaging and testing equipment will decrease by 20.5% and 15% respectively.

Affected by weak terminal demand, sales of wafer foundry and logic equipment will decrease by 6%. SEMI pointed out that due to the sluggish demand for storage memory from consumers and enterprises, sales of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) equipment will decrease by 28%, and sales of storage flash memory (NAND Flash) equipment will also decrease by 51%.

SEMI said that despite the recent headwinds in the economy, sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment are expected to recover strongly in 2024 after an adjustment in 2023. High-performance computing and ubiquitous connectivity will drive long-term growth.

SEMI predicts that global semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales are expected to return to the 100 billion yuan level in 2024, including fab equipment and packaging and testing equipment sales will rebound simultaneously.

SEMI said that in 2023 and 2024, the sales of semiconductor equipment in Taiwan, China and South Korea will be the top three markets in the world. Among them, Taiwan will rank first in the world in 2023, and China will rank first in the world in 2024.
