A forecast report released by the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) on the 26th pointed out that between 2025 and 2027, semiconductor manufacturers will spend a record US$400 billion on computer chip manufacturing equipment, with China, South Korea, and Taiwan spending the most.
Reuters reported that the International Semiconductor Industry Association estimated in a report that equipment spending will grow by 24% in 2025, reaching US$123 billion.
The association also stated that China, driven by its national policy of self-sufficiency, will invest more than US$100 billion in the next three years. But the report added that China's spending will fall from this year's record levels.
South Korea has memory chip manufacturers Samsung and SK Hynix, which are expected to spend US$81 billion in the next three years.
Taiwan, which owns TSMC, the leading wafer foundry, will invest US$75 billion. TSMC also has factories in the United States, Japan and Europe.
Estimated spending in other regions: US$63 billion in the Americas, US$32 billion in Japan, and US$27 billion in Europe.
Major sellers of wafer manufacturing equipment include ASML of the Netherlands, Applied Materials and KLA Corp and Lam Research of the United States, and Tokyo Weili Technology of Japan Company (Tokyo Electron).
