According to statistics from the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI), global silicon wafer shipments in the second quarter reached 3.035 billion square inches, a record high in four quarters and an increase of 7.1% from the first quarter.
SEMI said that the current recovery situation of different application markets is different. In the second quarter, 12-inch silicon wafer shipments increased by 8% quarter-on-quarter, making it the best-performing product among all sizes of silicon wafers. Strong demand for data centers and generative artificial intelligence-related products is the main driving force for the recovery of the silicon wafer market.
Taiwan's semiconductor silicon wafer fabs Global Semiconductor, Taiwan Sembcorp and Hechip's second quarter performance rose simultaneously; among them, Global Semiconductor's second quarter revenue was NT$15.325 billion, a quarterly increase of 1.58%; Taiwan Sembcorp's second quarter revenue 3.225 billion yuan, a quarterly increase of 6.46%; Hejing's second-quarter revenue was 2.252 billion yuan, a quarterly increase of 14.77%.
SEMI pointed out that as more and more new semiconductor factories are being built and output continues to increase, the long-term semiconductor market is expected to reach US$1 trillion, which will inevitably require more silicon wafers.
Global Crystal said that driven by the AI boom, the market demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) has increased significantly. Advanced processes and CoWoS advanced packaging technology will continue to drive the growth of semiconductor silicon wafer usage. It is optimistic about future operating growth and expects its performance in the second half of the year to be Healthier than the first half.
