(Central News Agency reporter Lin Xingjian, New Delhi, 8th) Huang Zhifang, chairman of the Foreign Trade Association, said today that the New Southbound Policy has entered a new stage. Taiwan will focus more on the field of science and technology, making good use of its advantages in the information and communications, semiconductor, and AI supply chains to strengthen cooperation with the New Southbound Policy. Cooperation with countries, including India.
Huang Zhifang attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 India Taiwan Image Exhibition in New Delhi today and accepted a joint interview with the media.
He said that President Lai emphasized in his inauguration speech the need to market Taiwan and expand globally. Under this policy thinking, the importance of the New Southbound Policy will increase. In the new stage of the New Southbound Policy, mankind has also entered the era of artificial intelligence. Therefore, when the government promotes the New Southbound Policy, it will focus more on science and technology.
Huang Zhifang said that in the new stage of the New Southbound Policy, Taiwan will make full use of its advantages in the information and communications industry, not just semiconductors, but also the energy of the AI (artificial intelligence) supply chain, to strengthen cooperation with the New Southbound countries.
He pointed out that countries around the world hope to establish semiconductor cooperation with Taiwan, but not every country has the conditions to develop semiconductors; India, with a population of 1.4 billion and a strong ambition, "will definitely develop its semiconductor industry. "
Taiwan currently has established cooperative relations with India in semiconductor manufacturing and IC (integrated circuit) design.
Huang Zhifang gave an example: Power Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has begun to assist the Tata Group in India to build the first 12-inch wafer fab in India; while Phison Electronics is developing the Indian market, it is also helping India train software design talents; Taiwan's largest MediaTek, an IC design company, employs hundreds of Indian engineers in New Delhi alone.
In addition, there are many talents and engineers in India working in Taiwan's semiconductor industry, and they can become the seeds for India's semiconductor development in the future.
Huang Zhifang pointed out that under the trend of global supply chain restructuring, many American companies have increased their shipments and production in India from the perspective of localization and risk diversification. Many Taiwanese manufacturers will also cooperate with these American companies to increase their presence in India. Production and investment are an inevitable trend.
He said that India has added more than 20 million new middle class people every year, which is more than the total population of Taiwan, and has considerable consumption power. Therefore, when Taiwanese companies are planning their global layout, they can consider India as a domestic demand market, not just for OEM exports.
Huang Zhifang suggested that Taiwanese businessmen who are interested in entering India should be patient in operating the market. As long as they take root here for a long time, the market dividends will be inexhaustible. Kangyang Assistive Equipment, which entered the Indian market more than 10 years ago, and Taiwanese companies that have been working in India for 20 years Dadian are all very successful examples.
