The output value of Taiwan's PCB industry was dragged down by the sluggish market conditions in the first half of the year. However, research institutions estimate that the second half of this year will be driven by the launch of new iPhone products, computer inventory replenishment, and server platform update demand. The output value of the PCB industry has resumed annual growth and is estimated to increase by 8.1% annually.
Data forecasts from the International Institute of Obstetrics and Commerce of the ITRI show that in the first half of this year, Taiwan's PCB output value dropped by 18.6% annually, with the output value of the soft-hardware version declining the most by 31.3% due to poor laptop market conditions, followed by the carrier board, which fell by 26.2% annually, and PCB equipment was also affected by the poor market conditions. Customers' reduction in capital expenditures caused output to decline by 16.4% in the first half of the year, with tool output falling by 29.9% year-on-year, followed by wet process equipment falling 26.9% year-on-year.
As far as this year is concerned, various industry players have generally expressed the view that market conditions in the second half of the year are expected to recover compared with the first half.
Data from the agency also shows that the PCB market is expected to recover in the second half of the year. However, due to the general environment and the sluggish first half of the year, Taiwan's PCB industry output value is still estimated to decline year-on-year, with an annual decline of approximately 16.8%, and the output value is estimated to fall below 800 billion yuan. About 769.3 billion yuan.
Looking forward to 2024, the agency analyzed that with the improvement of the automotive supply chain, the recovery of server demand, the development of emerging applications and the recovery of mobile computers, Taiwan's PCB industry output value is expected to resume growth by 8.1%.
