Biden and Modi plan to build new semiconductor factories in India, focusing on infrared and third-class semiconductor manufacturing

The United States and India have reached an agreement to set up semiconductor manufacturing plants in India, boosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to revitalize local manufacturing.
After U.S. President Joe Biden and Modi met in Delaware on the 21st, the White House announced that the proposed factory will manufacture infrared, gallium nitride and silicon carbide semiconductors. A statement from both parties noted that the India Semiconductor Mission, "a strategic technology partnership between Bharat Semi, 3rdiTech Inc and the U.S. Space Force" will support the factory.
India's geopolitical position provides many opportunities. Modi has repeatedly said that he will position India as an alternative to China. India has begun to take over some of the manufacturing operations of Apple and Samsung.
The two countries also announced that the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will fund the "Catalyzing the Construction of India's Domestic Clean Energy Supply Chain" project with an amount of approximately US$1 billion.
Modi's visit to the United States is to attend the annual Quad Summit. During the three-day trip, he will hold bilateral meetings with U.S. leaders, deliver a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, and meet with the Indian immigrant community and senior leaders of the U.S. technology industry.
Modi met with Google CEO Sundar Pichai, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Eli Lilly & Company (Eli Lilly & Company) David Ricks and others on the 22nd. The next Quad meeting is scheduled to be held in India in 2025.
