The International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) estimates today that the total sales of global semiconductor manufacturing equipment this year will increase by 3.4% compared with 2023, reaching a new record of US$109 billion. By 2025, driven by the demand for front-end and back-end processes, total sales can Reaching a record high of US$128 billion.

SEMI Global Marketing Chief and Taiwan President Cao Shilun analyzed that the growth curve of total sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment this year will further expand by 2025, with a growth rate of approximately 17%. AI artificial intelligence applications provide a strong foundation and growth potential for the global semiconductor industry.

Among them, wafer fab equipment (including wafer processing, wafer fab facilities and mask equipment), SEMI estimates that this year will grow 2.8% from US$96 billion in 2023 to US$98 billion, AI computing effects, China's equipment spending continues to strengthen, DRAM Heavy investment in memory and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) is the main reason. Looking forward to 2025, driven by demand for advanced logic and memory applications, SEMI estimates that sales of wafer fab equipment will grow by another 14.7% to US$113 billion.

From an application perspective, SEMI expects that sales of wafer foundry and logic application fab equipment will decrease by 2.9% annually to US$57.2 billion this year, mainly due to weak demand for mature processes in 2023 and higher-than-expected sales of advanced processes; By 2025, it is expected to grow by 10.3% to US$63 billion in 2025, benefiting from the growing demand for advanced technologies, the introduction of new equipment architecture, and increased procurement for capacity expansion.

In memory, SEMI pointed out that memory capital expenditures will have the most significant growth this year and are expected to continue to rise until 2025. Sales of NAND memory equipment will be stable this year, with an estimated growth of 1.5% to US$9.35 billion. It is expected to be A surge of 55.5% to US$14.6 billion. As for DRAM equipment sales, driven by AI applications such as HBM memory, it is expected to grow by 24.1% this year and 12.3% in 2025.

From a market perspective, SEMI pointed out that China, Taiwan and South Korea will remain the top three equipment spenders by 2025. It is estimated that China’s equipment shipments will reach a new record of US$35 billion this year, but it is expected to slow down in 2025.
